Update #2

In this update I dive into a recent project I've been a part of and talk about some updates regarding Menschen.

One of the many beautiful photographs taken of the Th(ink) in Type editorial publication project. Made in collaboration with Hugo Moura, Rita Soares and Taina Marvila.

Hello there!

Things have been going quite well. I've done a lot of progress with Menschen and I have completed the first semester in the Master degree in Graphic Design and Editorial Projects at the Faculty of Fine Arts in the University of Porto

Although this has been quite a mentally challenging period I've been having a lot of fun!

developing a business plan

In the past few weeks I've dedicated myself towards the launch of Menschen, kickstarting things by developing a business plan.

Developing a proper business plan requires patience, focus and a bit of help.

Creating a proper business plan was arguably one of the hardest things I've done, thinking about target audience, niches, market analysis, financial projections, etc.

Although it was indeed a hard process it had to be done, a good business plan will arguably be one of the most beneficial tools your business can have.

So how do you create one? Well I will write a proper how to article on this so I can hopefully take what I've learned and help a few of other creatives out there, for now if you can understand the Portuguese language I can't recommend this article enough.

I also can't mention enough how important it has been to have a few friends in the industry who are helping me out with the process. Building a solid network can really help you, if you want you can add me on LinkedIn, let's talk!

Th(ink) in type

If you follow me on LinkedIn you have probably already seen some images and a video of this editorial project.

It was done as part of the Master Degree I'm currently pursuing and it was a lovely project to be a part of. We were tasked with developing a publication that serves as a comprehensive collection of everything type related. Its essentially an instructional book.

The final result is one that I'm particularly proud of, its industrial, its delicate, its bold, its everything I believe a proper collection of typography books should be. The main features include a full acrylic case/cover and a binder system that allows for removal and adding of other sheets of paper.

My experience at the end of the first semester as a student of the Master degree in Graphic Design and Editorial Projects at the Faculty of Fine Arts in the University of Porto.

The first semester is finally over and it has been a rollercoaster of emotions. I've made a few friends and removed myself from a few relationships that were not healthy, but in general it has been positive and quite the adventure.

One of my favorite things has been to share my experience as a teacher with well my own teachers(ahahaha), its something that helped me bond with them whilst taking some insights for things to do in the future with my own students.

I've always studied/worked in some way or shape but it has been quite hard at times to manage everything I do as a professor with my responsibilities as a student. I never really got things easy or for free, for me it has always been this balance of being in the right place at the right time and creating good relationships with people I genuinely appreciate.

I don't have many recommendations, but if like me, sometimes you also struggle know that what helps me get through these rough patches is always keeping my head straight, exercising, cutting out unhealthy relationships and just remembering that I'm loved and appreciated by the really important people in my life, it doesn't really matter if sometimes things don't work out, that's life. Live day by day, there's no point in making life harder on yourself.
